Materials

Hand-rolled cathedral and opalescent art glass in a range of reds, roses and creams, no two sheets identical
Lead came framework, hand-soldered at every joint, finished with a dark antique patina
Cut to the true outline of England — no rectangular border or frame
Blackened steel hanging chain and soldered brass loops included
Shipped in a fitted foam-lined case

Design

The panel is cut to the actual geography of England, following the coastline as closely as glass allows — the southwestern peninsula, the southern coast, the Wash and the East Anglian bulge, the northern reach toward the Scottish border. The internal divisions follow county boundaries.

Very fine coastal detail is simplified where the glass would be too fragile to survive. That's a structural limit of the material, not a shortcut.

Personalization

Tell us your ancestral county and we'll set it apart in a distinct tone so it reads clearly against the rest.

If you don't know it, that's fine — most people don't. Give us the surname and any region you're aware of, and we'll tell you what the records suggest. Or leave it out entirely; the map is complete either way.

An engraved brass plaque with your family name can be fitted below the panel on request.

How it's made

Pattern — a full-size drawing of the country is prepared with every county mapped out
Colour selection — glass is chosen county by county, laid out and adjusted until the balance is right
Cutting — each county is scored, snapped, and ground to fit
Leading and soldering — pieces are wrapped in came and soldered at every joint
Patina and finishing — the came is patinated, cleaned, polished, chains fitted

Each piece is expertly crafted by hand.

Cut by Hand, One County at a Time

There's no machine for this. Cornwall alone takes an hour — that narrow tapering peninsula, scored, snapped, and ground down by someone checking the fit against a paper pattern, knowing that one bad break means starting the piece again.

Then it's leaded: every county wrapped in came and soldered to the ones around it, joint by joint, until a pile of red fragments becomes a country.

Look at the coastline closely. The lead follows every estuary and headland because the glass was cut to follow them. That's a hand, not a printer, and it's the reason this costs what it costs.

The Shape You'd Know Anywhere

You don't need a label. The long finger of Cornwall reaching southwest, the bulge of East Anglia, the Wash bitten out of the eastern coast, the narrowing north where it runs up toward the border. Anyone who grew up there knows it at a glance. So does anyone whose family left it.

Most people who own one aren't in England now. That's rather the point. It's for the family that went — to America, to Australia, to Canada — carrying a surname, a county, and not much else. Three or four generations later, the accent is gone and the shape isn't.

Hang it in a window and the whole country lights up in reds and roses. People notice it immediately, and then they ask, and then you get to tell them.

Steps of Creation

For thousands of years, signet rings have stood as emblems of power, authority, and belonging. Kings sealed decrees with them. Families marked their crests in wax. Generations passed them down as treasures that outlived lifetimes.

Research

A signet ring begins with vision. During consultation, we discuss your heritage, story, or chosen symbol to ensure the design reflects personal meaning and timeless identity.

Sketch & Digital Renderin

Your idea is brought to life with sketches and digital models, letting you preview how the crest, initials, or emblem will sit on gold or silver before the crafting begins.

Wax Model Crafting

A wax model is carefully formed to capture every detail of the design. This stage provides a tangible prototype — the foundation for casting in precious metal.

Hand-Carving the Crest

Expert engravers carve the design by hand, ensuring depth and permanence. Each line and curve is cut to stand the test of time, just as signets have for centuries.

Polishing & Finishing

The metal is polished until it gleams, edges smoothed, and every angle perfected. This transforms raw gold or silver into a ring worthy of wearing every day.

FAQs

Do you ship worldwide?

Yes — we offer worldwide shipping. Production time is typically 7–10 business days, plus shipping time depending on your location.

Can I send you my own coat of arms?

Absolutely. We will cross-reference it with heraldic records. If you want the exact design you provide, we can reproduce it faithfully.

I don’t know much about my family history. Can I still buy?

Yes — you don’t need to know your full history. Our team will research and prepare everything for you, using heraldic sources and registries.

What size are the framed coats of arms?

Our standard framed design is 16 x 20 inches — a striking display piece for home or office.

Do you offer discounts for packages?

We don’t discount multiple orders, but we often include special gifts with package purchases as a thank you.

Are coats of arms the same as family crests?

Not exactly. The crest is just one element (the symbol above the helmet), while the coat of arms refers to the full design — shield, crest, supporters, and motto.

Are your coats of arms legally recognized?

Our designs are based on historical heraldic sources and registries, but official legal recognition depends on country and heraldic authority (for example, the College of Arms in England or the Chief Herald of Ireland).

Do you customize the design?

Yes. If you want to add your family motto, change colors, or create a modern interpretation, we can personalize the artwork while preserving heraldic accuracy.

When I initially placed my first order with Heritage Studies, I was surprised with how quickly their team responded.

Throughout the process of their researching my family history, as well as the Coat of Arms, the communication was outstanding. I received timely updates while their team was conducting research of my family’s name and origin.

I think it’s important to know and be proud of your ancestry, and I’m extremely happy with the results from Heritage Studies.

The packages that they offer aren’t at all expensive. The quality of the content that they provide, along with the colored graphics are first rate. I highly recommend Heritage Studies, if you or another family member have been thinking about your family’s history, alongside your family’s Coat of Arms.

I have just received my second order to cover both sides of my family, and plan on placing more in the future.

You will be extremely happy with this company’s products and with the results. Best regards,

Mark Herbert

Heritage Research Team,

This seems to be a perfect time for me to thank each one of you, in advance, for what I know was a very difficult task. When you first started this Journey, you knew absolutely nothing about me. Now, after researching my Heritage, you've uncovered information that has revealed my Familier History. Whether it be good or bad, happy or sad. Whatever it winds up being, I know it is not easy to do. All of you wonderful people, have somehow, navigated through, and traced the footsteps of another Family, with pinpoint accuracy, Recorded the paths of another Family, whom you knew nothing about. I commend each one of you for having and using such a very unique talent. Nothing short of what Scholars and Professors do. Truly an amazing task to say the least. For once, in a long long time, I'm at a loss for words to describe my thoughts toward what a difficult yet interesting journey it must be to do what you do. I will remember the time spent and imagine the work involved as a Team, to put this project together. I shall display it in my Home with immense Pride. Thank you all, in advance, from my whole being. God Bless.
